Filing cotter pins

Does anyone have any advice, jigs or wisdom to share on how to file cotter pins? I have one article from Randy at My Ten Speeds but looking for others too. I currently carefully eye-ball the process with some success. Just looking for better more precise methods. Thanks and take care, Daryl

Another Badgeless TOC Bike

This bike looks to be 1890s. The rear hub has no brake or freewheel, but looks like it originally had a spoon brake which is now missing. I'll post it on The Cabe in case it's an American bike, and I'm posting it here in case anyone recognizes it as a Canadian-made or British-made bike. It came out of a farm auction in Janetville, south of Lindsay, about 50 years ago. If you know what it is, please tell!

(Used) Spoke Question

I am wondering what folks think about re-using spokes.  When parts are scarce it often requires lacing a hub from one wheel to the rim of another.  My question is not so much about maintaining authenticity, or keeping things original or even economics, as much as it is a question about safety and the wastage of what may be perfectly good to re-use parts.

Leader Marquis ser.# ?

I have recently come across a Leader Marquis, mfg by Victoria Precicision Works in Montreal. Unfortunately, the bike was "worked on" by prev. owner so it's a frame and boxes of parts, presumably all there. Sorry no pics yet ( I haven't picked it up). It is Not banana seat/Mustang type, just a std cruiser w/ 20" wheels, chrome fenders, chromed steel rims (very heavy), frame is brown. Serial # 502074. Can anyone direct me to a serial number guide for Leader, or tell me the year, I'm guessing '74?

Original Sunshine Colors

Hey All.... I am going to repaint my Sunshine balloon tire as it has been totally rattle canned at some point. It will be a good practice run for a resto I want to do on an Elgin Twin Bar.

Does anyone have info on original color schemes that they were offered in? I've seen red/maroon and white. Any other combos?

Thanks... Wayne

There's a pic of it in another thread in this forum.

Name that Bicycle

Hello Vintage CCM,

I'm Looking for assistance finding the identity of the bicycle shown in attached pictures. It gives some clues, but has been repainted at some point and is missing the head badge. Seems to have been rebuilt at some point. Here's the key info:

- Serial #Y18071 stamped on seat post lug

- Tru-Wel England stamped into rear drop-out tube

- Bottom Bracket Lug stamped Made in England

- The steer tube lug is very unique. The curved top tube is tangent to it rather than intersecting it.

C. Munson Toronto

I have an old pocket size book from C. Munson Toronto, dated 1912. The book only has 1 new bicycle sold by them. It is 1912 British Bicycle. The bike is manufacturedby the Glasgow Cycle Co. of Glasgow. The bikes have this name on them. Steel nickel plated enamel center on the rims, New Departure hubs, mudguards, Lycett Imperial saddle, skip tooth chain, American adjustable bars nickel plated with grips to match the frame. Has anyone seen one of these bikes or a headbadge. There is only 1 picture of this bike but hard to see details. No badge picture.

Penny Farthing

I have a vintage penny farthing with radial spokes. The question I have is, would I have to take tire off of front wheel to tighten spokes?

If not, how would I tighten them?   Thanks, David

Curious Belt Drive Sunshine

I have been sent photos of a Sunshine Waterloo kid's belt-drive bike. I think it's what they used to call a "sidewalk bike." It seems to take a regular automotive fan belt. Is it very rare? I wonder, was it a failed experiment or were these made by other manufacturers as well? I imagine the sole purpose was to keep the cost down - comments? I will try to post photos.
