In early 1938, two American coaster brake manufacturers introduced 2 speed epicyclic coaster hubs for the first time in many decades. these were the New Departure model DD and the Musselman 2 speed. Postwar, Bendix introduced their version, the MultiSpeed Power Brake. All were shifted by either a large hand lever (early Musselman - see photo of a Sears Elgin twin-bar) or a crossbar cable trigger.
Hey, long time reader, first time poster
I’m a big fan of the old ccm bicycles, but am having difficulty finding information on what looks like a repainted rambler I recently purchased from a collector.
Its an unusual bicycle, it looks as though it was originally painted burgundy and then painted black over top (as you can see in the photos). But the decal head badge is over the black paint, was it repainted in the factory this way? The serial number is intact except for the letter after the second number so I can’t date it using the serial number guide.
Received the following the letter. Can anyone offer any help? John
Hi! My cousin's trying to re-assemble the Hub of this 1939 CCM she acquired
and can't seem to figure out where these two triangle-shaped pieces go. One
of your archived photos shows the exact same parts disassembled, we were
wondering if you could help us out. They're two slightly curved triangular
chrome plates.
Thanks!
I have the identical bike! Well it was identical!!! to the bike in Forum topic - age my bike. My serial number is G153189. I was told it was a 1974...? CCM serial numbers are confusing me! I'd just like to know what decade it's from??? I bought it thinking it was from the year my girlfriend was born. I also have a CCM Encore serial E87604, was told it was 68 or 69 !?! My CCM tandem serial D24570, belive it to be a 1971?
This is a work in progress! Just found this a few months ago. It was rough and had broken frame. Cleaned it up, fixed and painted the frame. Still working on the fenders and chain guard. Had her down at Hutch's last week!!!
Here is my work in progress "1960s and 1970s serial numbers" chart.
I collected the data from over 50 CCMs, my collection of catalog from the 60s and 70s and have a lot of confidence in my findings. :-)
The previous thread discussed a blue woman's bike with a "G" serial number.
It looks like a 1966 to me!
Hi
First time posting here. I'm restoring an old CCM bike that belonged to my late wife when she was a girl. I'm trying to figure out how old it is.
The serial # is G006468. It has a CCM crank and Hercules coaster brake. I would guess that it was purchased new in the mid to late '60s, but that's just a guess. Picture attached.
Any help greatly appreciated.
thanks
john
