My old CCM Caprice

Years ago, I had a CCM Caprice 5 speed bike. It was lime green in colour. I forget where I got it from but is was in good shape. I tried to get my dad to ride it but he did not take to riding it. Like many of the bikes I have had over time, they ended up being pasted to others. I think is from the early to mid 1970's. I did not get a serial number off of it. I need to scan up the picture of it that was taken about 20 years ago. I will then post it here.

Serial numbers

I looked on the seat tube on this CCM girls bike for the serial numbers and nothing. So where are they?

The rear hub says 1937 but I expect that's a patent year.

Where Where?

imperial frame repair (rivet)

Has anyone repaired or replaced the rivets on the rear dropouts of a frame before?  I have a early to mid '60s imperial mark 2, and the rivets appear to be coming loose.  The bike is a bit on the rough side, but I would like to do it up for a new daily ride.  Cosmetics/ originality ane not totally important, I just want to have a safe and reliable bike.  If it comes down to a nut and bolt through the frame I will be fine with that, but I thought I would check and see if anyone else had some ideas or experience doing this.

Old Chains

Hello all

I have a question. The chain I just got working on my lastest CCM bike was old and rusty. A number of the inner rollerbearings have split open. The bike still runs OK but there is a bit of noise in the drive train. This bike is not going to be used on a regular basis other the short trips but what problems can happen to the chain in the long run?

star bearing s33 cross reference

Is there a current replacement bearing for the Star S33 bearing race found in a 1937 rear hub?

CCM-built JC Higgins

I wish I had a camera with me I didnt!

Spotted a cantilever frame Simpson-Sears JC Higgins bike in downtown Toronto. Looked to be based on a CCM Catalina style frame, and was unlike any US JC Higgins bike Ive ever seen. Did CCM ever manufacture this brand of bicycle to anyone's knowledge?

CCM trades bike

I have a 37 tradesmans bike also called a light delivery bike.

Do any of you guys know what colours they came in?

How many of these bikes are still around? Anybody want to guess?

1950 CCM Double Bar Ballooner

Well I decided to take a drive out to Backpeddling in Guelph today and like a moth to a flame, I was lured by the complete originalness ( is that a word)  of this bike. It broke the bank but I just couldn't help it. I'm gonna ride the crap outta this thing! :)

2012 Canadian Vintage Bicycle Show

Received the poster for this year's Canadian Vintage Bicycle Show from Jamie McGregor. It's to be held in Brantford on June 24th. Jamie is a member on the site here and I'm sure will keep us up to date as the event approaches.

For those who are looking ahead, I really recommend you keep this date open. I went for the first time last year and had a great day. It's a well run event with friendly people and bikes you'll just never see anywhere else.
